What is it? A Bookmark!

Chances are that you know someone that reads books, a lot of readers especially hard back buyers are quite particular about their books, folding over the corner of a page is not an option, and that's where a book mark comes in!

They're ideally suited to card makers, you can simply adapt the same designs that you use on your cards or try something new.

To help get you started we've included some examples;

Bookmark using vellum paper
One off cut of card.
Stick a 50 mm square piece of mirror board onto the card.
Overlay with vellum Silver Chinese leaf
Then go around the edge with tulip paint, this fixes the vellum and finishes the edge.

Vellum and roses
The next is a bit more elaborate
First we've stuck some printed music gold paper on the card.
Overlaid with some white handmade paper frayed around the edges, then two paper flowers over.

Very simple and very fast using Jolee stickers!

There are obviously many thousands of designs you can use, you can also punch a hole top or bottom and add a ribbon or tassel.

The best way to protect your bookmarks is to laminate them, most print shops offer this service at a reasonable cost.

Rubber stamping copyright issues

Most rubber stamp manufacturers have what is called an angel policy, meaning the you can use the stamped images on cards that you sell, but there are restrictions, the main ones being (A) the amount of times you can make and sell a card with a particular image, and (B) that all stamp impressions must be made by hand, no mechanical methods can be used..

Every company differs slightly, below are the terms of some of the bigger stamp producers:

PSX stamps
Written Permission from PSX is required, this will allow you to make up to 100 items per year featuring PSX designs, more that 100 will require some kind of licensing deal.

Hero Arts
Limited to projects that are limited in scope, local in nature, and otherwise do not constitute an ongoing business. Additionally, quantities for commercial use are generally allowed if they are in the range of 50 hand stamped impressions per stamp image.
A letter or email acknowledging the terms must be sent to Hero arts.

Personal Impressions, Inca & Funstamps
Written permission required, no known limitations as regards numbers.

If you are selling cards with stamped images it's always best to contact the manufacturer and get permission along with the terms for each particular stamp range, just to make matters more complicated terms can differ between stamp ranges from the same manufacturer!
